Vacation Bible School

Each summer, about the time children are getting bored and parents are getting desperate for school to start again, Calvary Cathedral offers our Vacation Bible School. Scheduled in the evenings to accommodate busy working schedules, VBS offers a variety of activities, games, crafts, and treats, plus solid Bible lessons. This year's theme is "Take the Plunge - Make a Splash with Jesus!" and features water-based lessons. Plans are in the works to end the week at Wild Water West with the entire Cathedral family. Rummage Sale

Each fall the church bustles with bargains galore. Started as a fundraiser for ministries of our women's groups, the rummage sale has evolved into a ministry itself. Members of the community shop our sale, known for its low prices and high quality, to supply their extended families, help refugees, support local homeless shelters, and get great bargains for themselves. Church members bring items during special collection weeks each month in the spring and early fall, then help sort and price the clothing, housewares, furniture, jewelry, toys, and equipment. Proceeds from the sale are distributed to ministries within the church and community.

Advent Lessons and Carols

Some of the best music in Sioux Falls is offered at 7 pm on the first Sunday of Advent each year at Calvary Cathedral. The Cathedral Choir, South Dakota Symphony Quartet, soloists, and members of the Cathedral, under the direction of Monty Barnard, present a series of Bible readings and music outlining our history as people of Christian faith. From Creation through Redemption, the music and lessons flow together beautifully, leading one on a unique journey of faith. This event and the reception that follows are free to the public. Annual Easter Egg Hunt

Each year young children are treated to the fun of an Easter Egg Hunt, hosted by the youth groups. We meet in the downstairs dining room to make sure everyone has a bag or basket for collecting eggs. If the weather is nice, we head over to the park across the street for our hunt. If the weather is nasty, we scour the lower level of the building for all the goodies. Each age level (Kindergarten and younger, 1st-3rd grade, 4th & 5th grade) also has a "golden" egg, winning the finder a special prize.

Cathedral Ministry Festival

To kick off the new year of activities, the Cathedral presents a Ministry Festival on the second Sunday of September. Representatives from all the committees and activities are present, with displays (and often goodies, to lure you to their table) to show the highlights of their wonderful ministries. This is the opportunity to learn more about the vibrancy and involvement of our Cathedral family as a community and in our community of Sioux Falls and South Dakota. Parents sign up their children for Children's Chapel, Sunday School, and Youth Groups. Individuals and families renew or indicate their interest in different opportunities for ministry and fellowship. Everyone is blessed by the vitality, involvement, and love of our life together as a Cathedral family.
