We are the Cathedral Church for the Diocese of South Dakota and thus home for all Episcopalians in the state.  We are called to be a sacred circle of love, prayer and service gathered around the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.  We welcome you to Calvary ... and invite all baptized Christians to join us in Holy Communion.

On the pages listed to the left, information regarding who we are and what we believe can be found, as well as how to reach our clergy and church staff and how to find us in the city of Sioux Falls. Also, there is a plethora of historical information on both Calvary Cathedral and the Episcopal Church, and links to our Diocese and the Episcopal News Service as well as our own Cathedral Caller newsletter.

What is the Episcopal Church?

In over 160 nations worldwide, there are Anglican churches—and in the United States and Scotland, they are known by the term "Episcopal" (meaning "with bishops"); the term "Anglican" refers to our common origin in Christian missions launched from the British Isles.  As part of this Anglican Communion, the Episcopal Church in the United States is linked to 77 million Christians, organized into 37 provincial churches worldwide.

The Episcopal Church strives to offer a moderate and inclusive approach to faith. While the church presents clear, biblically-based teaching and guidance on most subjects, we also understand there are some issues in life that can be experienced and interpreted in different ways by different people.  We encourage respectful listening, dialogue rather than debate, and “unity in diversity” among our members as we seek to live faithful and fruitful lives.

The Episcopal Church uses many terms which may be unfamiliar to many of you and our services are steeped in tradition.  General information about the Episcopal Church terminology and our services can be found on the attached .pdf. More information than what is included in the .pdf can be found on the national web-site, www.episcopalchurch.org.
